Many of the pictures you've seen are from Cedar Rapids. There's a large Quaker Oats facility right next to I-380 downtown. North of there is a water level yard and wrapped around the facility are storage tracks and yard tracks served by Iowa Norther, CRANDIC, and UP. This whole area and 1000 blocks in CR have been as much as twenty feet under water. South of this facility and over the river to the west are bridges from the UP, IANR, IAIS and CRANDIC and these have been flooded over. The problem is that other than Iowa Northern and CRANDIC these are major east/west mainlines. I believe there's also a CN/Chicago Central line in the middle of that as well. At
the south end of town is the huge ADM ethanol facility which ships a lot south on CRANDIC but
that line is flooded at Iowa City. Our office is just south of the IAIS office (south end of town)
and we're all high and dry but it's been nearly impossible to get there because of road closures.
Major mess.
