...and to add to what shortline sammie said, whatever anybody pays for the line through the abandonment/offer of financial assistance process will be determined through whatever the "Net Liquidation Value" for the line is set at. Whatever CORP paid for the line in the first place will have no bearing on what it is sold for now. Given what has happened to scrap prices, CORP/RailAmerica/FIG may stand to make out pretty good on this one.

I'm still waiting to see anything out of the state of Oregon or the Port or the shipper's group explaining how they plan to operate a profitable railroad where private industry could not.
