I notice CEO Tom Downs resigned at the end of 1997, the same year the Pioneer and Desert Wind were cut. So those were some of his final acts.
I read last night that I15 between LA and Lad Vegas has the worst safety record of any freeway in the nation (drivers who are distracted, sleeping, intoxicated, etc, are factors). Thus you would think even a slow train on that route would have a market.
