Wow, that brings back memories. I grew up in La Mirada in the late 1950s. Rosecrans was a two-lane road with a very steep, abrupt berm going over the double-track ATSF main (loved those PAs!) at the bizarre three-way intersection with Stage Road and Marquardt. Taking that crossing at anything over 25 mph made for a short but attention-getting flight. Dairies lined Rosecrans east of the crossing all the way to Valley View, and in rainy weather their fragrant effluent would pool in the low spot in the pavement just east of the crossing.
My dad was a California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer. His routine was to commute to and from work on his CHP Harley. I recall one rainy night in particular he had ridden home that way, took the grade crossing at speed, and got bathed in the dairy water. My mother didn't let him in the house.
