Actually the NWP overnight trains with Pullman service were #3 and #4.
#1 and #2 were the day trains which were dropped long before 1956.
A photo caption showing an NWP Historical Society calendar's photos shows part of #2's daytime schedule:
Quote:Bound for Eureka, Train 2 pulled by No 139, charges up the grade toward Tunnel 3 near Greenbrae. The train left Sausalito at 8:20 am, will be at San Rafael at 8:45. It will terminate at Eureka, 267 miles farther, at 7 in the evening.
When the "Redwood" was introduced, NWP used #'s 3 and 4 rather than going back to the day train numbers. They kept using #'s 3&4 when the RDC ran from Willits to Eureka.
