Well, shopping it out to a contractor is going to cost more than an in-house job. Wasatch has its overhead and profit to factor in, plus there is transportation (cranes, trucks and all that). Yeah $800k is believable.
Of course, a place like IRM restored its suburban coaches for pennies thanks to volunteer help. And the in-house restoration of the NP steam switcher Stati Pappas is doing I think will cost around $800k.
But yes it makes me feel kind of sick to my stomach to think about $800k spent on a stupid suburban coach. Volunteer organizations could make that money go so much further.
