The stuff released by NTSB is just facts, mostly descriptions of the vehicles, signal tests, a few pix, and interviews of the engineer trainee and conductor.
There are also some interesting reference docs, like the Metro ETT and UP ETT etc.
The ref docs used by the mechanical reporters are cited- mostly 10 year old crash studies.
The pilot is not mentioned, nor even noted clearly on the dwgs- The dwgs appear to be by Rotem, and the pilot would seem not to be considered part of the crashworthyness package
Lots of work to do by NTSB before anything is written about probable cause
The final report should be thorough, as NTSB is An exception was the report about the fatal Amtrak WB hit by a truck near Fallon NV- the dissenting vote was based on 'too little' explanation of other possiblities, albeit the conclusion was deemed correct [dumbshit truckdriver and lousy brakes]
For those with not much to do and interest in pilots, there is, somewhere on the Great Web, studies of the forces involved. My recollection is that, without very large deformations to shed acceleration, the forces on a pilot are huge. Obviously, large deformation of a pilot at impact is not a desirable thing for obstruction removal. Perhaps all that [if i remember it correctly] should be part of the NTSB study
