A Talgo Train Extra in California in 1994 -- Part 1
Author: MartyBernard
A demonstration set of Talgo cars were on the West Coast in
October 1994. I caught them five times on a deadhead move on the Southern Pacific down through California to Los Angeles on October 2. Here are the shots I took at Oakland.
To add interest, a San Joaquin (Train 721) and the Coast Starlight (Train 11) passed the waiting Talgo Extra just north of the street running and at the north edge of Jack London Square.
It was also "Pepsi, no Coke" day. Count them, five Pepsi cans. The Talgo Extra had two elephant-style, the Coast Starlight had two rump-to-rump, and the San Joaquin sported one.
Note the Talgo Extra was not only running against the current in the railroad sense, but in the street sense too. The track closest to me is a siding. The trains are on the double-track main.
Actually they did a nice bit of railroading that morning.
Enjoy these five photos,
More to come further south,
