Doesn't Happen Often, but when it does...
BNSF train stalled at J Street in Sacramento this morning, blocking midtown crossings through T, including all the major surface-street commute routes. Get your Waze on! [
www.sacbee.com] UP is working on it ... the old WP line.
Even when things are working right, that area can be a problem if a train comes through at commute time. Because of all the crossings (yes, it's a quiet zone now) trains have to run fairly slowly - looks like 30-35mph zone. I was there in the evening last week when UP was almost fleeting trains through, with perhaps 15 minutes between.
Of course if you try to go around to the south, and Murphy is awake, light rail (Blue Line) will show up (it parallels the freight line south of R Street) just after the freight train clears. Gates to up, then right back down. Ding ding ding. Happy Tuesday (thought Mondays were supposed to be the bad ones)!
