Per the Bee, it was a broken coupler. Took about 2 hours to locate and fix. It was, after all, a 10-block-long train. Bee has videos on its web site this evening of people doing stupid things - could almost be used for a textbook of what to do that's wrong, or maybe to a assemble a bloopers reel. Some selections:
