Amtrak's equipment shortages don't just apply to the passenger cars. Believe it or not, the Genesis locomotives are getting old. I was on #14 and engine #113 kept dying, with a cutout of HEP power each time it shut down. I believe they restarted #113 at least 10 times during the trip from LA to Bakersfield. Luckily the power outages in the cars were brief each time, because it was a very hot day outside. We ran on just the first unit for power and HEP from Bakersfield to Stockton, with the 113 shut down, then a UP freight engine was added and took the train to Seattle.

Anyway, the point is that Amtrak needs both cars and locomotives replaced as soon as possible.

It was a great trip however, at times I felt like I was on a fantrip there were so many fans on the train.
