Re: Anybody know about a reported 1950 (?) Santa Fe (?) proposal to build out Tejon?

I know and have seen the actual evidence that ATSF did an active plan realigning and building a new line over Tejon, across Muroc Dry Lake, from the Barstow-Mojave main, in the period 1915-1917. WWI put a stop to it. Later after WWI ATSF also briefly looked at a "ridge route" option, as well, and I've seen a map of that proposed alignment, with difficult gradients. There were definitely extensive surveys and some plans actually drawn up for those two proposals.

I have seen no actual "footnotes" anywhere about the purported 1950 "ATSF" plans, or how detailed, or "real" these might have been. Although these have been mentioned elsewhere, as has been noted. If there is any original "source" documentation on this "1950" proposal, other than a citation from another book, I'd sure like to see it.... If John Signor has that sourcing, then I'd put more credence in the credibility of that proposal.

If I had a nickel for every tunnel, for rapid transit, or monorail that some politician was "proposing" to be built to the new "SST/space-port" in Palmdale, back in the 1960's, I'd be rich.... Thinking something up, to impress the public, is a lot easier than actually taking the time and effort to do a realistic plan, which is why politicians like to do it, so often...... Which is why I am somewhat skeptical that many of these were much more than speculation.....

Speaking of promises and the lack of real planning (CHSRA?), I ran into Kathy Perez recently, and I asked her if we were ever going to see any HSR? I also let her know, that we could sure use $400 million or so for the Del Mar bluffs realignment. She had to resign when she ran for State Senate, and is no longer on the CHSRA Board. They come and they go.....don't they?

Oh well....?
