Unfortunately as previously stated due to the no steam or passenger excursion policy on the G &W, no trips down the Siskiyou line is an option. A Sacramento trip would be great but would be a two nighter stop each direction... first in Bend, OR... then second likely in Klamath Falls due to lodging needs for passengers making for a short day two trip. This trip was looked into for the 2002 return to freedom run that turned around in Bend. Was originally going to operate to Sacramento via the high line and Feather River Canyon and was approved by both BNSF and UP. It didn't operate all the way to Sacramento due to operating expenses and fear of not selling enough tickets at the high cost they would have had to charge to cover the trip. Today, this trip is possible... just would be an expensive trip to ride, and you would have to coordinate with three railroads... BNSF, UP (under BNSF trackage rights), and Amtrak for insurance.
