E & N Railway on Vancouver Island

After not having visited Vancouver Island in several years, and thinking about a trip there soon, I am wondering whether the local citizens were ever successful in restoring passenger rail service between Victoria and Comox, or at least to Nanaimo. Checking Google Maps/photos it appears that on pics shown as taken in 2015, rails in various spots I looked at near Nanaimo are shiny. The west side line to Port Alberni looks abandoned in the pictures taken in 2012.

I was not able to find anything current on Google that would indicate whether there is any rail operation at this time.
