On my road, standard car counts are based on 50-foot cars. If I'm switching coaches, then it is assumed that all car lengths given are coach lengths. If you give a count in "long cars", such as "three long ones to a hook", that is assumed to be approximately 90-foot car lengths (like a pig flat).
