American producers are not receiving much of the new lumber business this year. Of the 1.9 billion board feet from increased demand this year through April, 1.6 billion came from Canada.
Some warn the US is considering a 30% import tariff on Canadian lumber to protect American jobs if they can't reach a new agreement this month. The US gubmint has done just that fairly recently before. The Idaho River Friends should form a brief alliance with the hated free marketers and fight the potential import duties. This would help protect against future threats from the remaining sawdust savages in Idaho.
At my age with no stake in the future, having off loaded my biological reproduction offshore, the fighting and cross purposes provides much amusement in my declining years. Too bad about the lost jobs in Orofino, perhaps if they lean forward all will be well.
While railfanning the Columbia River east of the gorge area, I have located several sites where people have found a trouble free way of disposing engine oil. If you find a level graveled beach area, one has to simply drive your vehicle up to the shoreline and drain directly into the river. Those mechanics which have the time also enjoy a riverside picnic, empty oil containers and filters make for an ideal beach fire, but not all it seems have the time for a fire.
