As far as I know, the tracks are still out east of Salmonberry.

The excursion's turnaround point at Batterson is practical because there is a passing siding there. When the POTB was still operating, this is where trains coming west from Banks would meet trains coming east from Tillamook. The crews would swap trains and return to their respective start points.
