The tracks still extend east to Milepost 3.3, about that distance east of town, which sits just west of the Pilgrim Creek Road crossing. Everything east of there has been pulled up.

The initial abandonment application back in 2005 was to end common carrier operations over the entire railroad and tear out everything east of McCloud, but the slim prospect of freight traffic from the then planned Nestle water bottling plant in McCloud caused them to retain common carrier operations on the McCloud to Mt. Shasta trackage. That is where things now stand.
