Thanks, Ken. That is absolutely fascinating info!
What huge ferries they were!

Any idea how the SP managed to deal with the need
to take one out of service for a while to work on
the hull in a dry dock? I wonder how they manged to
get passengers and freight from Sacramento to the Bay
Area and north when one of those ferries was in dry dock?
