Mook announced that there will be no SMART train building to SAusalito Ferry despite the widening of the tunnel at Mill Valley and the existence of the ROW there.
This plan shows the way to get the SMART train finally to the Larkspur Ferry Terminal.
Without a ferry connection, the SMART will be failure.
I believe the railroad west portal (Southern Pacific convention) of Tunnel No. 2(On NWP mainline, timetable from 1916) is about 50 feet. Naturally the parking lot of the ferry terminal is close to sea level. Probably about ten feet above sea level to be safe.
On this routing, which requires a cut and a tunnel under the SMART mainline to Larkspur the line needs to drop down through a cut to be able to go under the SMART mainline, which one day will be extended to the shopping Malls at Corte Madera.
It is about 2500 feet to the road crossing of the approach highway that goes by the ferry terminal parking lot. 2% grade.
The yellow line is currently built mainline. The green line is the extension to the Ferry Building, which will come off a swithc near the tunnel portal.
The building labeled Starbucks/Winetasting will be a fabulous waiting room with wine and coffee for riders. In later years I envision a Steam-powered wine train to originate and terminate here, travelling to Healdsburg.
