I'm wondering if perhaps you were on the Mt. Index Road (MIR Road) that winds back to Sunset Falls Bridge, and further back, Canyon Falls Bridge. It's the only place I can think of that has a "checkpoint" shed, which actually is not manned anymore, and which used to protect local homeowners that have homes off MIR Rd. If you were heading east on Hwy. 2 out of Goldbar, just before you crossed a green Hwy. 2 bridge and turned left (north) to go to the town of Index, there would be a gravel road on the right just before the bridge (west side of the Hwy. 2 bridge)...that is MIR Rd.

If, instead, you had crossed that bridge on Hwy. 2 and passed the left turn to go into Index, then--continuing east--headed up a rise curving left about a 1/2-mile or so, and pulled off on a gravel road to the right...that would also take you to Sunset Falls and Canyon Falls Bridges...only you would be coming in from the north side of the river. This road goes down to a fish hatchery, and further, to the area around Canyon Falls Bridge. However, it is now barricaded by a local security checkpoint complete with security cameras that the locals installed and maintain to prevent anyone from wandering into their homesites. So you can no longer use this road to access the bridges from the north side.
