Re: Why Ditch Lights over Gyralights/Mars lights?

The fact that the ditch lights are often set to flash when approaching a grade crossing suggests that the gyra/Mars light effect isn't dead. Does get one's attention a little better than just some steady bright lights even with the triangle. I can see ditch lights instead of gyra/Mars from an accountant's standpoint: not sole-source. But controlled studies regarding relative effectiveness? I would be interested in seeing one, too.

Does Amtrak still have things set to display a red light forward when in emergency?
