Technically true - there was state funding managed by Caltrans. But not the same management group and definitely not the same designers. The track layout actually works.

The fact that there's a relatively long walk between the building and the platforms is an artifact of the historical preservation process and the inability to move the structure closer to the tracks (yes, the latter was proposed at one point). If you've been to an airport, you've walked a lot farther than you will at Sacramento Amtrak.

The last time I was in there it was dark and claustrophobic with all the scaffolding around. Will be nice to see things open again. Hope they fixed the front doors...

The rental space is clearly targeted at hi-tech people who want to have easy access to the trains for Bay Area trips. So it isn't particularly inexpensive, though much less so than if they tried to get some in SF, Oakland, or San Jose.
