There are many innovations that can be used to try to make crossings safer, and I always like to remind folks that you are in orders of magnitude greater danger, on a per mile basis, when driving to the train station in your car, than on any passenger train...... Yet, some will still try to be stupid, which has the consequence of potentially causing them to remove themselves from the future gene pool....despite our best efforts and all of that expense.

It's a remarkable effort and opportunity for Washington State, which was based on good planning, by firms I've held in the highest regard over my career (HDR/Cambridge Systematics/JL Patterson come to mind), in stark contrast to the woefully poorly planned, and, as a result, the now nearly completely dysfunctional and bankrupt intercity and high speed rail program in CA.......
