You could also look at the potential for a more "familiar" company when looking at shipping options from Latin America and the Caribbean. If the guy taking your ocean boxes from Port Everglades speaks your language and knows your culture, that could convince some more freight to move via that gateway.
Things could get really interesting if Hunter Harrison/CSX decides to give up on the New Orleans gateway and sell it's Panhandle line to UP. Now you have a company with, shall we say, a vested interest connecting to you in Jacksonville. And if we see the shifting container traffic prophesied by the expanded Panama Canal pundits, that might not be a bad thing because UP is likely to see its West Coast land bridge traffic decline in the years to come.
