A true gauntlet track, according to AREA standards does NOT have a switch at the end... P&W may call it a "gauntlet"; actually all it is is a non-standard siding with impaired side and front/rear clearances. Either scenario does not allow two trains to pass at the same time.

A gauntlet track is where the siding merges with the main track to cross a bridge or a tunnel where sufficient clearance or traffic levels do not warrant a double-track bridge ot tunnel.
