The failures were due to crank flex and jack did an excellent job of telling why. If anyone has
ever seen a 645-20 crank out of the block and on a stand it's pretty obvious that both balance and
proper support would be necessary to the thing living. The C series 20 cylinder CATs while shorter
also have smaller bearing diameters, should be interesting to see how they live in a locomotive.
On the industrial applications they seem to do well on generator sets but not much on mud pumps.
