Ballast Quarries

Something I have been curious about for years are ballast quarries in the West. I wonder if anyone has compiled an inventory of them with which railroads used their product. For instance I have often wondered how far the red ballast from Newberry Springs was spread along the Santa Fe, and where that brilliant white rock seen on the Arizona Divide came from.
