I'm not sure how far and wide the Newberry Rock made it on the ATSF, but from what I recall the white 'Shipley Rock' ballast came from the pit at Shipley, AZ. (between Peach Springs and Nelson).

Even further back in time, much of the black cinder ballast seen on ATSF mainlines in the Southwest until the 1970s came from Nevin Pit, a volcanic source just west of Bellemont, AZ (south of Route 66/I-40)

SFRH&MS members and ATSF fans please feel free to chime in and correct where I may be wrong.
