You really cannot directly compare the two, as trains running across Cajon Pass are going to have more horsepower period from end point to end point as there are multiple grades up and down between endpoints. My understanding of trains in the east is they do not need that overall extra horsepower so helpers are used specifically for Horseshoe grade.
