This is just typical of the PR BS that comes out of the mouth of Matt Rose. He knows perfectly well that wind-generated electrification of rail lines is cut from the same cloth as an invisibility cloak - stuff best left to the Harry Potter crowd. But it plays well with a nation that is currently stuck on stupid.
Wind energy is intermittent, therefore unreliable for on-call demand. The dirty little secret about wind power is that it needs a conventional backup generation source (e.g. you have expensive capital redundancy), which of course begs the question as to why not just run the backup source at optimization and junk all those wind towers?
Maybe some day someone somewhere will come up with a way to practically store wind energy so that it can be utilized when it is actually demanded. Until that day arrives, America should cut out this nonsense (wind, solar, ethanol et al) and refocus on expanding drilling, nuclear energy, and coal-to-liquids technologies.
Again, Matt knows this.
