The Deer Park earthquake of June 27, 1925, an estimated 7.0 Richter Scale shaker, did quite a number on Milwaukee Road Lines West in Sixteen Canyon, East of Lombard, MT. The West portal of Tunnel 8 was completely plugged with falled rock and boulders, some weighing many tons. Train traffic finally resumed on July 10, using a shoo - fly laid on the former grade of the Montana Railroad, which Milwaukee Road had bought during their Westward expansion.
