The SP Bakersfield roundhouse originally had 24 stalls. Sometime between 1937 and 1944 (most likely early '40s), stalls 8 and 9 were eliminated in order to put run-through tracks in, leaving two disconnected roundhouse sections, one with 7 stalls and the other with 15 stalls.

The steam deadline at Bakersfield that included Daylight locomotives was west of Baker Street, north side of yard. Two 1955 photos of the deadline showing GS-3 #4418 can be found at:

Note that #4418 is facing in the opposite direction in the circa 1957 photo, so apparently it was restored to operational status after 1955, at least for awhile.

Bakersfield had another steam deadline just east of the backshops.
