Santa Fe engineer W.B. Bailey was able to jump a sinkhole on the old Valley Division, West of Stockton, CA. in the Delta area, back in 1981. His lead unit, GP - 35 # 3437 made it across but the trailing GP-30's fell in. Judging from the photos in the book Valley Division Vignettes, by Glen Icanberry & J.L. Krieger, he made a jump of almost 100 feet !!!
