It seems to me the Great Dream would be a commuter line from Santa Cruz through Watsonville and up to Gilroy via the Coast sub. This would allow people to commute throughout most of the South bay/Peninsula via a CalTrain connection. A line connecting Watsonville and Monterey would be a nice addition, but it seems nothing is happening down there at all. Local opposition?

A quick look at the line in Google Earth(Google is your friend!) reveals a few potential customers:
Probuild in Capitola, live spur in place
Probuild in Santa Cruz(Big Trees line), spur needed.
Graniterock in SC(SCBT), spur needed.
Las Animas concrete in SC(SCBT), partial spur in place.

Add that to the lumber into Felton, and you've got a decent operation going. The trick is getting companies to make the switch from trucking.
