Started riding Amtrak on their two week excursions in 1972 and one of the memorable dining car offerings was splendid French Toast. I had never tasted a better example of this breakfast item, it reminded me somewhat of a doughnut. There was no crust but a superb crisp shell with a soft interior. This item was available in 1973 but was changed by 1974 to the standard fare, to my somewhat bitter disappointment because after my first taste I never ordered anything else on the breakfast menu.
