Renton Historical Society story .pdf
Short read from the Renton Historical Society & Museum republished in 2006. Article about a robbery on the Puget Sound Electric Ry interurban from an eye witness. There is an error regarding one of the photos used in the story. The image description states that a man is waiting for the interurban at Black River Jct. The photo actually shows a man at the Northern Pacific operator shack at Black River Jct where the NP Lake Washington Belt Line 11th sub Renton-Woodinville joined the Seattle-Tacoma 2nd sub adjacent to the Longacres horse track. You can see the interurban trestle in the distance which crossed over the steam roads.
The little structure was still there in excellent condition up until most likely 1972. Spent many hours watching trains from the platform and a few horse races. In my time it was never manned. The segment of track from Black River Jct. through Renton, WA to near Coulon Park was abandoned in 1972 after the merger that formed the BN. The former 11th sub trains then entered Renton on the old GN owned Pacific Coast Ry - Milwaukee Road line just north of this location.
I read once that this building was actually a recycled bridge tender shack replacing an earlier structure a short distance from this final location.
