There's a post in a thread yesterday on Trainorders containing information to the effect UP has water cars staged both sides of the fire, Portland area and The Dalles, and that at least then damage to the railroad was limited to one smouldering tie. Winds are expected to shift from east to west, which may now start pushing the fire up the gorge, towards Hood River. Already some businesses there dusting off their evacuation and other emergency plans.
