I've been riding buses (Greyhound, Trailways, Badger Bus and local transit buses) all my life. Sometimes I encounter some riders who are hacking away. Mostly, though, I've never had any problems.
I was more concerned last week on a flight when I was seated between two passengers who had colds.
Regarding the government, it has done much more to force us into reliance on automobiles for most of local mobility needs. According to data published by the National Safety Council, the consequences of such policies are deadly as someone is much more likely to die in an automobile than using public transportation.
