I thought "hate week" was a hoot....
I was working a switch engine crew, and as they imposed "hate week", we just worked to "rules", waiting to be told every move, making them repeat it twice to make sure they had screwed it up, and we followed the "rules" and waited patiently on the "direct" orders for every single move. It quickly overwhelmed a large portion of the third tier officers, micromanaging the imposition of this misbegotten and chickenshit "hate week" crap, while they watched as the RR completely melted down around them.
The whole LA Division came near to a standstill, as a result of "hate week", and traffic just stacked up. as movements ground to a crawl. The teamsters suddenly wouldn't deliver intermodal, because they "feared for their safety", disrupting all the pig trains. It was a clusterf##k that took weeks to straighten out, and IIRC in later such periods, during contract lapses and negotiations, they didn't try to do that one again.
To paraphrase the old saying attributed to your typical Soviet worker back during the height of communism: "They pretended to pay us for working, and we pretended to work". Which I think pretty much summed up our program for that week.
