According to my notes, this would have been the year after Shasta Huffen Puff folded. Up to this point NorCal's involvement in McCloud excursions had been an annual June trip to Burney. In 1972, NorCal club president Ernie Nelson increased this to seven trips, five between McCloud and Mt. Shasta and two to Burney. By 1973, NorCal was sponsoring a trip over McCloud every other weekend, alternating between Burney and Mt. Shasta throughout the summer. It would not last, by 1974 insurance concerns and high gas prices kept a lot of people away, and the railroad operated only a handful of excursions between 1974 and the first half of 1975 before ending altogether.
