Never heard about that wreck.
I did talk to Maben about the switch into the spud shed around Tule Lake and I saw the pictures at a BBQ in Mt. Shasta. MofW left the switch lined into the spur and they found it at 40 MPH. The tater shed had just run out of bags and everyone had left. Mowed everything over with the lead unit buried up to the gangways, second unit was cleaned off to the frame by the third unit that over rode the under frame.
That is one of the reasons I didn't like dark territory. You usually knew where the trains were, but you never knew if a switch was wrong.
