There is no freight business north of Watsonville and the Santa Cruz liberals will never allow another Polar Express. It is a given that the tracks north of Watsonville will be abandoned. No rail operator will bid.

Most likely scenario is Iowa Pacific will continue to service freight in Watsonville. If they go BK, FRA / STB will be required to get operator - probably make Union Pacific service Watsonville freight.
