The major purpose of the Amtrak Ft.Lewis bypass line is to improve running times. The " last " station on the line is either Lakewood ( for Sounder ) or Tacoma Dome Station ( for Amtrak ). Per Altamont Press Northwest Region Timetable the distance from Lakewood to Nisqually is 11.5 miles; subtracting a mile or so for the short distance from Nisqually to the Interstate 5 bridges makes it right at 10 miles. Add another 8 miles +/- for the distance from Amtrak's Tacoma Dome Station to Sounder Lakeview station and you are recommending Eighteen miles of 30 MPH running.
