They were strapped for cash rebuilding the bypass route, how would a SIXTY-mile-long bypass yield any benefit if it miraculously got funded? The Lacey station stop would no longer be used, and extra sidings and switches would have to be built in order to accommodate meets on the longer bypass. Nah, keep the funds on the new bypass and build a new bridge over the original NP main so Sounder trains can operate all the way into Olympia.
