You said that the promoters of mag-lev claim that because there is no friction on the guidway that no maintenance is needed? I would think that it MUST need very careful aligning and surfacing on a regular basis for high speed traffic. At high speed, a vehicle that is levitated to a very small height could not possibly "dance" around on a guideway with irregularities in it.
