Its real.

I was gassed in Tunnel 6 on Cuesta back in the 70s. They took me and the head man to the hospital and told us to "call them if we felt any worse." Back then they couldn't break down blood like they do today. They had to take a sample of our blood and send it to LA. Back then they had no idea.

Fast forward and they had switched from cast iron shoes to "Cobras" not only on the engines but freight cars. . What they never told us was it was almost 70% asbestos. Think about switching and being on a helper, cut in.

If you were not in the steam days, you still got a dose from the steam generators when you had to restart and work on them. The commute engines had them right in front of you in the short hood.

We have lost a bunch of guys because of this. Its sad. I have Asbestos and Emphysema and really didn't smoke that much back in the late 70s.

Its a one way trip.
