Eith recent postings go me thinking some Sacramento Northern:
Not counting the end of passenger service in the mid 50s or loosing juice a decade later:
1. Looks like the SN was severed first between the Ramon barge bottleneck between Mallard near Pittsburg and Chipps south of Montezuma and Rio Vista JCT...
2. I understand after this the line was cut back to Lafayette and then Walnut Creek, but I don't understand if the line was being cut back due to BART or lack of freight service... It looks like it currently runs from the SP Moccoco line connection as far as Concorde. I remember reading that SN has an agreement with the ATSF for trackage rights, but I dont know on which of Santa Fe's lines, because I remember and excursion from Walnut Creek to Pittsburgh on the SN in the 60s with a diesel and WP passenger equipment for BART Brass.
Looks like ACME still gets some boxcars via UP and Moccoco line connection since the early 90s and the subway was flooded. Also looks like the Concorde portion of the SN was taken over by the military but both.
3. Yuba City and Marysville area to Montezuma (not affected by BART). It looks like the line was cut somewhere in between at least in one or two segments.
4. Again, would be very interesting to see how many was left by 1980 and how did SN (WP) managed it's leftovers, did they negotiate access to Marysville and Montezuma via SP?
I wish my buddy the late Ken Shattock "KeyRouteKen" would be with us, but I'm sure other RVJ, SN fans would know. Thank you.
