Radio Questions

I have a Motorola HT1250. I would like to get a better antenna for longer range and clearer trasnmissions. It works fine communicating with the base station in the yard office or locomotive, but pac set to pac set it could use some improvement. What are some options I could look for? Thank you in advance.
