IIRC the valley line is well maintained and 70MPH almost the entire length, cant say that for the coast south of Paso Robles. When I rode the detour we loast 45 minutes before Palmdale due to Metrolink and another hour at Lethrop, but arrived in Oakland on time.

UP does handle the train as a true class 1 on the Fresno sub.
